Every Time I Die has been a integral part of the hardcore movement since Hot Damn! was released in 2003. Starting out with a more chaotic style employed by fast smashed chords, guttural shouting, and time signatures with the focus of a 5 year old "ADHD" afflicted child on a sugar-high; they had thus progressed into a gruff classic rock empowered by the choral hooks that kept everyone singing along and craving more.

The progression of Every Time I Die has had the viral effect of gathering crowds and new fans alike into the genre, but alas leaving some of the more "O.G." crowd craving the turmoil that seemed to be lost to time. Simply put, New Junk Aesthetic, has brought back the discord and innovation that the band should be known for. Upon hearing the latest album, new and old fans alike will find it hard to keep from banging their heads to the beat and singing... err, shouting, along.

When New Junk Aesthetic begins, the harmony uniting the archaic and modern alike is clearly accounted for. "Who Invited The Russian Soldier" and "Wanderlust" have some of the old heavy, fast paced chord work, that is heard back in songs like "Ebolarama" and "The Logic Of Crocodiles". Moving along and staying fresh, "Turtles All The Way Down" and "Organ Grinder" provide a means of intermission that show Every Time I Die hasn't simply been sitting down reiterating the past, but proving the same lines of evolution that they have through their record chronology.

Every Time I Die can put another notch in their belts for yet another successful and invigorating release. Ignoring the idiom, there are a few releases a year that stand out and are used as definitions of that time in music. Just as Hot Damn! hit that niche in '03, New Junk Aesthetic is destined to do the same in 2009.
