Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin have become unforgettable by their name alone, as not many can dismiss such a unique title. Thankfully for them, their music has been able to keep up with their name thus far. Their 90s pop rock sound is catchy and hard not to smile to, and their lyrics, though nonsensical, are hard to get out of your head. They are overall a solid band with a growing fan base that will not be lost after the release of Let It Sway. This album is simply a fun indie pop record, not meant to be any less or any more. Take it for what it is, and you will love it, but try to search for a deeper meaning, and you will be left disappointed. Overall, the band did a good job sticking to their style and cranking out another album perfect for cruising with the convertible top down.

Their musicality is simplistic, very natural and with an easy flow, but very original at the same time. They sound like they are truly playing because they love to, not to prove anything or try to be extremely innovative or groundbreaking. That is the essence of this album: simplicity and joy. There is nothing forced or made up or exaggerated about it. It is what it is and cannot be taken as anything more. The lyrics and music fuse together perfectly, which is hard to say of lyrics that do not have much deep meaning. For instance, both the lyrics and musicality of “Sink/Let It Sway” are both very easygoing and give off a chill, go-with-the-flow vibe that is very refreshing, especially in this time when many bands are trying too hard to be revolutionary.

The perfect match for simple, mellow music are lyrics that are also very undemanding and informal. Though the band’s lyrics do not contain any deep meaning, I think that is the beauty of this album. It means something different to each listener, is unbearably catchy, and is perfect for singing in the shower. There is not much to be said about the lyrics-- this band just wants to be free. As they say in “Back in the Saddle,” all they want is to “keep on drinkin’ until it spins” and make music. Simple as that.

Let It Sway has a balance of upbeat, poppy songs and slow, mellow, easy listening tracks, which makes it perfect to spin anytime, anywhere. It is meant to be taken at face value and nothing more. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin have released another solid, fun album, and they deserve proper recognition from fans and critics alike.
