VersaEmerge's self-titled EP starts them out on the right foot. For being young, they sure do sound like they have been playing forever. The EP has a strong start, but by the last few songs it seems to steady to a slower pace. Overall, these guys manage to produce a unique sound, song by song, and also manage to throw together a good EP while doing so.

Throughout the entire EP, they show they have an impressive understanding of alternative and experimental sound. All the instruments mesh together very well and always keep you interested. The addition of keys and other programming sets them atop of other bands in the genre. Sierra Kusterbeck, age 16, who also lied about her age in order to land the audition for VersaEmerge, seems to be the perfect vocalist the band needed; she hits everything right on the mark. Each track progresses well from first to last and never clashes.

Sometimes while listening to this album, I caught myself thinking that I was listening to Paramore. It seems that VersaEmerge took some influence from them, which isn't a bad thing. They do have their very own sound separate from mainstream, which is always welcome. With a strong start, touring relentlessly and a legion of fans, VersaEmerge will be going nowhere but up. It seems that with this momentum, they have a bright future ahead of them.

VersaEmerge was formed by former drummer Anthony Martone and guitarist/vocalist Blake Harnage back when both members were in high school. Although the duo instantly experienced regional success selling out their first ever gig and gaining critical acclaim in their local music scene, it wasn’t until the band solidified their line-up—which currently includes guitarist Harnage, vocalist Sierra Kusterbeck and bassist Devin Ingelido—that things really started happening for this dedicated group of young adults.
