Oh yes, that's from an old Matchbox Twenty song. The words of Rob Thomas resonate and bring to the surface an all-too-familiar emotion; reacting to a real world experience as unflattering and overwhelming as an 80-hour work week. Late 90's alternative has absolutely been owning my iPod-usage, and for good reason. I'm STRESSED out! There's something about the genre that brings a kind of lasting reminiscence of more simple times when everything wasn't so chaotic. I think everyone can relate.
Here's a list of particular bands that I've enjoyed over the last month or so (not all of them are from the 90's, mind you):
Matchbox Twenty
Third Eye Blind (mostly self-titled)
Counting Crows
Dave Matthews Band (mid-era)
Coldplay
Keane
Semisonic
OneRepublic
Snow Patrol
Well, you get the picture. I've been feeling very cerebral, and my senses are all on tilt. With my constant over-thinking, and over-analysis, alternative music that brings a form of simplicity to the surface has literally been the perfect fit. I'm 23 years-old, I'm broke, working like a dog, but life is a precious commodity, and I'm choosing daily to use mine for good. Music is the fuel that keeps me going.
