Who is Review Rinse Repeat?

Q: So, you write reviews, eh? What are your poli­cies for coverage?

A: We gen­er­ally tend to work inde­pen­dently, and decide what we want to cover our­selves, based on our tastes and what we per­ceive will inter­est read­ers. We do accept lim­ited amounts of unso­licited mate­ri­al for review, how­ever, we can­not guar­an­tee it will be cov­ered. In sim­ple terms: If we ask for it, it will def­i­nitely be cov­ered. If we don’t ask for it, it may or may not be covered.

Q: I work for a label/publicity agency, and we’d like to work with Review Rinse Repeat. How do we go about it?

A: Contact us, and tell us about your com­pany, and how you would like to work with us. Please con­sider whether your clients are styl­is­ti­cally suit­able for Review Rinse Repeat. In other words, save your­selves and us the time if your ros­ter con­sists of coun­try artists doing j-rap covers.

Q: How do I increase the like­li­hood of my mate­r­ial being reviewed?

A: Give us incen­tives to cover it - pro­vide us with suf­fi­cient time to pre­pare a review in time for the release date, ensure the review will be exter­nally linked after it is posted, and offer us an exclusive!

Q: So, how do we get our music to you?

We’re old and tra­di­tional, so we favor phys­i­cal CDs. However, our pri­or­ity is to get a review com­pleted as soon we can, so to save time and money, we will accept dig­i­tal down­loads and streams (prefer­ably water­marked). Q: So, if you do decide to review the CD we sent you, can you guar­an­tee my label’s band/my band will get a pos­i­tive review?

A: Absolutely not. We have a respon­si­bil­ity to our read­ers to artic­u­late hon­esty through our reviews. If it’s bad, we’ll say it’s bad. (Hint: If you know it’s bad, it’s prob­a­bly bet­ter you save both our time and yours, and don’t send it to us - unless we asked for it, of course!). We will under no cir­cum­stances remove a review.

Q: My band is unsigned. How can I get my band to take part in an Unsigned Spotlight feature?

A: Simple. Contact us, and we’ll send over the details you’ll need to take part in the fea­ture. Be aware that high demand for this fea­ture means that we can­not accom­mo­date every sin­gle MySpace band with 5000 page views. Being tal­ented is a require­ment, and hav­ing ‘some’ notable achieve­ments to your name - previous/upcoming releases, tour his­tory, etc, will help your case also!

Q: Could you review my band’s/label’s artist’s old album?

A: If we haven’t already cov­ered it, in all hon­esty, it’s prob­a­bly a ‘no’. We have a lim­ited staff team, and the team is focused on cov­er­ing cur­rent releases. Exceptions may be made in excep­tional cir­cum­stances - we need to really really really like you though. However, if we like you, we’ll def­i­nitely con­sider adding any upcom­ing releases to our cov­er­age schedule!

Q: Why don’t you cover [insert artist name here]?

A: Simply put, we cover what we want to (and logis­ti­cally can) cover. There are cer­tain artists with which we sim­ply see no merit in cov­er­ing. Let us know if you would like to see us cov­er­ing any artists; any feed­back is always appre­ci­ated.

Q: I am inter­ested in a chal­lenge. How do I go about apply­ing for a posi­tion on the RRR staff team? Are you seek­ing to hire anyone?

A: Our Staff Vacancies page has details of all open posi­tions, and how to apply for them. Good luck!

Q: How do I adver­tise on Review Rinse Repeat? How much?

A: Contact us, with details about your com­pany and how you would like to adver­tise. Pricing depends on the type of ad, other details per­tain­ing to the ad, and how long you would like to keep it on the site.

Q: How does the site’s com­ment­ing sys­tem work?

A: If you wish to com­ment, there are two ways of doing so. You can sim­ply leave your name, email (both required) and web­site (not required), and your mes­sage, or alter­na­tively (and we encour­age this) you can con­nect to the site using your Facebook account. Q: What are the rules with regards to commenting?

A: We encour­age a range of opin­ions, and tol­er­ance of oth­ers’ opin­ions. While not want­ing to restrict expres­sion of opin­ions and thoughts, we do have some very basic rules though. We strictly will not tol­er­ate flam­ing, trolling, or spam­ming, and we kindly ask that you refrain from using exple­tives unnecessarily.

Q: I posted a com­ment, but I want to delete/edit it. How can I do that?

A: Just leave another com­ment below it, say­ing what you would like to occur, and if your request is deemed rea­son­able, a staff mem­ber will apply any changes as soon as possible.

Q: I have a question/concern/complaint/some feed­back. How can I get my issue addressed?

A: We care greatly what our read­ers think. Contact us, and we’ll con­sider and con­verse your query, and we’ll prob­a­bly get back to you too.

Q: I did an inter­view with Review Rinse Repeat, and I don’t remem­ber say­ing some­thing you’ve quoted me as say­ing. What can I do?

A: Most of our live inter­views are con­ducted in loud, awk­ward places. We try as much as humanly pos­si­ble to ensure that our inter­views are accu­rate, but some­times, we make mis­takes. If you have an issue, con­tact us. We keep the sound files from every live inter­view we’ve ever done, and we’ll hap­pily send you the file, so that you can review any errors. Fair?

Q: How much money does the site make?

A: Less than an aver­age hobo. We do it for the love.

Q: What is your pol­icy on news?

A: We aim to make our news fac­tual and rel­e­vant. We don’t post triv­ial news (too much), and we gen­er­ally stray away from post­ing rumors. Particularly with rumors, we always will always link exter­nal ref­er­ences, unless it is pub­licly avail­able news, such as tour dates or album details.

Q: Can I sub­mit news to Review Rinse Repeat?

A: Yes. Contact us. We can­not guar­an­tee we will post anything.

Q: How does the site’s rat­ing sys­tem work?

A: Our rat­ing sys­tem is quite sim­ple; but we’ve explained it in detail here, just for good measure.

Q: Who are the staff? How are they hired?

A: Our staff team con­sists of music lovers, and able writ­ers. They are often peo­ple who have either been rec­om­mended to us, or have applied for a position.

Q: How many times do you lis­ten to an album before attempt­ing to write a review?

A. This varies from writer to writer, but we encour­age our writ­ers to spin an album at least 6-7 spins before start­ing a review.

Q: How do you choose Featured Artist and Album Of The Week? Why is [insert artist name here] featured?

A: We look at the releases that hit stores that week, and decide what our favorite artist and favorite album is. It’s sim­ply a staff thing.

Q: Did you get paid to promote/feature [insert artist name here]?

A: We have never taken any money in return any­thing other than ads. However, if you’d like to pay us to give your band a pos­i­tive review, please send your CD, along with $500 in cash to the mail­ing address pro­vided above.

Q: I wish to post a review from Review Rinse Repeat on my site, can I do that?

As long as you cite us (web­site and writer), we are fine with excerpts from our reviews being shared exter­nally. We ask that you refrain from copy­ing entire reviews onto exter­nal sites how­ever. We will not view any pla­gia­rism favor­ably, and will take action.
