Unsigned Spotlight - The April Year

Having formed in April (of course!) and hailing from Chicago, we're excited to introduce you to our new indie/pop band, The April Year.

Consisting of Spencer Walters, David Tansey, Tyler Madden and Timothy Blom, we've brought our musical talents together to create and share with (one of our biggest motivations for being a band) - YOU.  The start of The April Year came from many different places - we have Spencer who comes from a long musical background that started with piano lessons, David who really must credit Blink 182 for influencing him to play, Tim who used his intelligence to teach himself bass, and of course Tyler who started out as a self-proclaimed "not cool" musician wanting to impress his female fanbase.

On a serious (but always light) note, we have all come from musical backgrounds, having previously played in bands.  Three of us were actually in the same band for awhile, but it's only when The April Year formed that we truly realized the amazing musical chemistry we all have together!  Of course, our influence has to come from somewhere and that somewhere is a huge list of bands of which we admire their writing and music so much.  Some of our favorites are Relient K, The Fray, Brighten, and Ryan Adams.  We can all easily say that this music and more influences us more than anything.

Unlike artists who blow up and may decide to add on co-writers, we write ALL of our own music.  If you're expecting us to say that our writing process is sparked by our love and personal lives... you're absolutely right!  These are the things happening to us and are very real - one of the reasons we all turned to music was because this was a way that we all had in common in which we get a rush (seriously) in expressing ourselves - through music! It's really surprising, shocking and AWESOME when people actually sing along when we play.  It makes us feel like we're doing something right, which is absolutely worth the blood, sweat and tears (just kidding... kind of).

Now, on to what's happening with us... we are currently giving away FREE music. No catch, we all just want you to listen to our EP "The First Time In Forever" which includes our first single "Meet Me Here" that we've worked incredibly hard on.  If you have any sort of time, give us feedback!  The thing we're really trying to do right now is get our music heard by anyone willing to take the time to hear it (you are awesome, by the way).

We're of course thinking about touring and if you do like our music, expect to see us really, really soon.  We don't make music for nothing and as said before, seeing people sing along to our music gets us all in the best mood and we want to do our part to be able to meet all of you!  One of the things that we all agree on is that although the internet is essential for getting ourselves out there (hello, free music from us!) we definitely prefer personal interactions.  If you're awesome enough to like what we have put out there, we owe it to you to give you the entire April Year experience - meeting you and getting out there even if it means trekking through crazy blizzards.  We're putting our creative minds together and are also currently writing and will have a bunch of great new tunes to listen to very soon!

With having free songs out right now for you all to check out (we're actually putting it on iTunes soon so grab the free music now), recording brand new music, playing lots of shows locally and regionally, you can expect some surprises in the near future.  Stay tuned to all of our sites below - you never know what spontaneous things we have in store for you!

Review Rinse Repeat says:

There's something organic about The April Year - no autotune, pure melodies and thoughtful lyrics. Their ability to write their own music and not rely on outside writers is impeccable and sure to bring them to the top of the pop/rock music charts.
